Hey guys

So i am being throttled crazy with Mweb and in need of a new reliable ISP as i game a lot(Steam,PSN etc). So i will definitely be doing game downloads as i buy a lot from steam especially.

I am currently looking at the Openweb 2mbps gold uncapped account. Is this package any good? Or am i just better off buying a 'huge' data cap account?

Thanks

Openweb is a good choice, I would recommend a capped package though if that can work for you. How much data you use on average per month?

I would use just over 100 GB but with me getting the PS4 soon,i think it will be more. i am also considering the web Africa capped 90GB + 90GB (12 am -6am ) deal.

Afrihost is also a good choice. I'm using a 2MB Business Uncapped package, it's slightly more expensive than OW Gold but it is completely unshaped.

budget is R300 and my parents will pay for the line :D

Is the mweb business uncapped 2Mbps any good? whats the download limit on that package? as i see it is R299

I'm on a Standard uncapped account from OpenWeb and it performs well. Moving to Web Africa's capped product from the end of the month though as I don't really need an uncapped account with the amount of data I use. Capped will perform better ;)

If I needed uncapped I would most likely be back to OpenWeb as they have been great! :D Support also replies to emails quickly if you have an issue.

I see Telkom has a limit of 250GB before being throttled? is Telkom good at present?

I did the spreadsheet as I was contemplating a move. I was on the MWeb 1Mbps premium uncapped. I considered other uncapped ISPs and even capped accounts. After reading the numerous complaints on other ISP threads on here, specifically Telkom since the start of this year and Afrihost with their North/South issues, I decided better the devil I know and "upgraded" to an MWeb 2Mbps standard account. I can always test it for a month or so and then make the call thereafter if I want to move.

Good stuff this work done by Dubes.

I personally would advise you that the more you pay the more you get.

Think about capped vs uncapped, the former usually offering good speed and contention over the latter.

Consider support - when the interweb goes to pot ... that support is more valuable than the R5 saving you made.

Finally consider augmented services - free "'always on'' wi-fi access, or a free router ..... if you need these.

Good luck
