Switching from Webafrica to Afrihost (Openserve)

So with the price cuts and line speed upgrades from Openserve, Webafrica is taking the piss and cutting upload speeds. I am currently on a 50/25 line at R969, but if I want to change to a new "faster" package I have to settle for a 100/20 line at R899. Upload speeds is more important for me at this stage, so I was hoping for a bump up to 100/50.

Now I want to switch to Afrihost for a 100/50 package at R917, but I have a few questions:
  • How long does it take to switch?
  • In what order should I be ordering the new service and cancelling the old? Can't afford to be stuck without internet.
  • I am moving in about 2/3 months from now at which point I need to cancel. Are there any penalties on Afrihost? Can't seem to find any, not even mention of returning their router?

If you are happy with them then great for you. I have had numerous clients with nothing but problems with AH.

Well I left cisp in favour of afrihost and couldn't be happier.. While I must say cisp were great in getting me signed up and helping me as a new client.. Once my Fibre was connected it was not so great,that I eventually cancelled
Anyway I guess it's just my opinion and everyone is entitled to theirs.. Im not slating cisp but merely giving my humble opinion.

Yeah, nothing wrong with AH network.

If I was you I would rather wait until you are in the new property. You need to give a full months notice to cancel a service with an ISP which means that by the time you are finally up with the new ISP you basically going to have to cancel.

Sticking with Webafrica until you move out means you can order in advance at the new place and as you move in the internet will be up and running. While everyone is giving an opinion about Afrihost, honestly anything is better than WebAfrica.
 
Of course the pitchforks come out because a person doesn't choose their ISP as usual.

Both AH and CISP have great forum presence and their networks as well, I think AH does have the better support system and client area backend. Take a look at AH and CISP forum threads and you see people having issues in both.

Just because your ISP experiance is great doesn't mean all others suck.

1) Openserve will basically come round the next day after the request has been put through to them (They have said themselves that for new installs they aim for 24H turnaround time), the official way is to apply basically the day before and provide your ONT.

2) You cancel the old before order the new

3) No penalties.

Regarding no downtime:
You can avoid downtime if you can get the new ISP to activate your account early since when your fibre line goes into the unassigned pool it still works, I was able to do that by Afrihost but its not officially supposed to be a thing.

I dont see why you'd have to cancel with an ISP before you're moving, maybe confirm with @AfriNatic what the process on moving properties is.

Thank you for considering us as you ISP.

We have fixed R999 cancellation policy whether you take the router or not. IF you do take the router then the router remains yours.

I would suggest sticking it out with your current ISP until you moved to the new place. Your current ISP might require a calendar months notice which could mean that you essentially will only be with Afrihost for 1 month.

Below is the terms for fibre on the same pages as the prices just a bit lower on the page.

We can waive the cancellation fee if you signup for fibre at the new premise.

Okay thanks I think that clarifies it. Will have to stick it out with WebAfrica for a few months. I'm moving overseas so was just looking for a temporary solution.
