MWEB.CO.ZA - 30GB + 30GB NIGHT TIME DATA + 10MBPS FIBRE R 479 pm Month to Month

Can one just get another capped account from another ISP ie. axxess etc. or will it have to be another bundle data plus fibre line deal.

You can get data only accounts but it's probably gonna end up costing you more than an uncapped package deal at the end of the day.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that certain DSL data accounts work over Openserve Fibre. I wish we had Openserve Fibre in my area. We have Vumatel here.

Better than no Fibre at all I guess.

They do, you just enter your PPPoE username & password and it works like any DSL account would.
Yup they do but just wondering if I cancel mweb then I guess that will cancel the fibre line as well ?

Vox FP, Axxess and Afrihost DSL accounts work on fibre ppoe.

You could probably move your Fibre Line to Telkom if I'm not mistaken, but you'd have to pay them R425pm rental anyway. Then you could get a data account elsewhere.

If you're running on Vuma you can't do this - They configure your ONT/CPE as a Layer2 device on the ISPs network.

Not sure about OpenServe, I think it might be doable considering they are still using the IPC for switching on the metro fibre network.

I just cancelled Openserve for Vumatel. Pricing on Vuma is waaaaaaay better than Openserve. Used to run 100mbit Openserv with a 1TB Vox account. Now running 20mbit uncapped and I'm pushing the same amount of data, if not more - due to better upload speeds.

How do you even make that comparison?

Wait, so you actually had the option to choose between Openserve or Vumatel?

I figured that all areas only ever get one Fibre Provider each.... if they're lucky enough to even get a Fibre Rollout.

It was easy. I've used both. Used to pay ~R1400 for 100mbit Openserve with 1TB cap (using DSL accounts). Now paying R795 for 20mbit Uncapped. The total amount of users on my line has more than halved, so I don't require that much on demand bandwidth. That being said, look at the cost of "uncapped" packages on Openserve versus the cost of uncapped packages on Vumatel.

If there is anything specific you want me to compare, I would be happy to do so.

We've had Openserve for quite some time now. Vumatel finished deployment mid December. I have received some Octotel pamphlets as well... Seems like they might be laying down some fibre too. Just a lucky area, I guess.

Lucky is an understatement.

For me, Openserve would be ideal, since I don't share my internet connection. I only need a 4Mb service, but I need at least 2Mb Upload. With Vuma, the 4Mb service only comes with 1Mb Upload. I'd have to get 20Mb just for the 2Mb upload.

Also, with Openserve, you have the freedom to switch between ISP's on demand, which is awesome. The freedom of xDSL combined with the stability of Fibre.

I'm not going to bad mouth their service, as I had 100% uptime and zero complaints. Just keep in mind that bandwidth is still managed like a DSL service. The ISP's pay for IPC, just like with DSL.

While I agree, the ability to switch between ISP's instantly is nice, I ended up using it maybe once or twice a year. I would move back to Openserve tomorrow if the value swings back in their favor.

I am battling to get Openserve to move my fibre line to Mweb. Can anyone please help?
