Hi all.

I have the following question - hopefully it is not a repeat.

I have a server with Windows 2003 on it and at the moment I use Routing and remote access on it. This works very nice with all my applications as it does NAT and all the port forwarding for me.

Now I'm Installing ADSL and would like to continue using my set up as before, the only difference being that the connection to the internet is made via the above mentioned pots router. This router will be connected to a second NIC on the server so that none of the other machines can get access to it except through the server. If i setup RAS to make the connection for me will it sort out all the port forwarding issues or will the router still need to be configured.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Burny1, the solution is infact not too difficult. When you get the router, you would normally open its configuration and put your username and password and connection settings in it. Simply don't, so the router will not connect by itself allowing all users to access the internet and be accessed by the internet.

On the windows 2003 server, setup a broadband connection with a username and password, so the computer connects to the internet using your ADSL. You will see it will function similairly to your usual dial-up connection. Infact the functionality becomes basically identical, except that its faster and has a 3gig cap on it. Connecting to the internet and disconnecting should operate in the same way as a normal dial-up connection from that computer now.
