Switching oil brand for Ryobi generator

Hi All

I bought a Ryobi generator a quite a few years back and used a few times, maybe 10 hours in total and its been standing for the last 3 years. Now that Eskom is starting load shedding again I want to get it running again so I drained the old petrol/oil/etc.

My question is related to what oil to use for the refill, the manual indicates SAE 10W30/10W40 and I initially filled it with Shell helix HX5 (15W40 - now R35 per 500ml at Shell) on recommendation from the salesman. I still have a can of Castrol Magnatec (10W40) from my wife's car service in Dec2017. Can I use this instead as it is closer in SPEC to the recommendation or should I keep using the Shell Helix? I do not want to damage the engine and shorten it's lifespan. Also the oil drained looked almost brand new.
 
Call Steven's & Co... they're the Ryobi agents- I'm sure their tech dept will be able to help you.

Check google or your manual for the recommended oil. Just use what they say. Normally they would use a single grade like SAE 30.
I am sure it will be different from unit to unit.

Shell is a good oil if that is what was used before stick to what have worked.

Called the agents and they confirmed any four-stroke oil will work, even a single-grade oil, so I assume the tolerances on these cheapies is not the greatest, so I will be going with the Castrol Magnatec and save a few bucks.

I looked through the user manual and could not find any oil recommendation other than the recommended grade of oil to use. Google also did not give any concrete answers about this and I'm unable to find a service-manual or the like for the generator. Going with the Castrol as its on hand and the agents indicated any four-stroke oil would suffice, going to buy beer with the remaining oil money :D

My guess would be that the oil level sensor is stuck, I would temporarily disconnect it to see if it starts
