Good afternoon fellas.

I manage a small network, with workstations currently connecting to a Router which serves the DHCP & DNS across the network.
I would like to add DHCP & DNS roles to the current Server 2008 machine and disable it on the Router, since the Router seems to struggle and I would think the 1Gb link on the Server will manage it better than the Router.

I would like to confirm if this is all I need to do?
Will the workstations just automatically connect to the Server and request a DHCP lease and utilize it for DNS, or is there anything I should be aware of?

Thank you for any advice or guidelines.

Thanks Wong,

I will check the links. I don't mean to be lazy, but just need an answer on my question as above.
When I switch the Server to DHCP and DNS, will the workstations automatically request DHCP leases and utilize it for DNS, or must it be configured manually?
The Router will be the gateway, yes.

Thanks,

Yes, just install the roles on your server and perform the appropriate dns/dhcp configs on the server, clients will perform dora once their existing router leases expire or if you reboot the workstations they'll grab their ip etc from ypur win 2008, easy peasy !
