I just called your sales call centre to find out what the process is for one to migrate an account over to Afrihost with no downtime.
Apparently, this is not an option.

It's like ISPs don't actually care to onboard new customers.

I was given the scripted response of "it takes 1-5 days for activation".
Why?
Surely this can be automated. With most people working from home, no one can afford to not be connected for that long.

The sales person was as zombie-like as they come, not going off script for a second, so I knew I wasn't going to get an intelligent response here.

Looks like I'll have to stick with Cool Ideas until the end of time...
For shame Afrihost, for shame!

I'm sorry you had a bad experience.

I want to help and answer any questions you have.

An ISP change really depends on the FNO and if the previous ISP releases the line/address for a new ISP to place an order. There can also be delays where the portals takes some time to update for a new ISP to take over or even where the FNO requires the previous ISP to approve an Early Release.

Hi AfriNatic,

I understand, however surely being a large ISP you have some influence over the response times of the FNO (Vumatel, in this instance)?

I'm considering switching to Afrihost but I cannot afford any downtime, even if this means some overlap in billing between both ISPs.
I'm sure I'm not the first person that has asked this.

I'm working from home, and I rely on my line for work.

With Vuma it's a bit difficult. 1 active service allowed per address. Once CISP service is terminated we can place an activation order. If it's Vumatel where you have an Object number it can be a bit quicker because I can use another portal to place the order with the Object number and not the address but ONLY if the current service is cancelled.

If it was Openserve for example we could have activated a new B number on the second port or you could have used pppoe from us so long while the line is being migrated over.

Ok, thanks for the explanation.
It makes far more sense than telling me it takes 1-5 days.

Are you aware of this changing anytime soon?

NB: Yes I did need to provide an object number to CISP when activating the line.

Unfortunately not. We give that timeline because something can go wrong. If everything works exactly as plan downtime is minimal but if something goes wrong there can be a delay in the activation.

@AfriNatic Good day, I'm also interested in changing to Afrihost fibre from Axxess via vuma. I would like to know would incur any cost transferring over? Do you guys offer static IP address with vuma fibre? and would I receive an IPV6 address?

Hi,

We cover the activation fees and router. We just charge a R249 delivery fee.

If you are on Vuma GPON we won't be able to offer a static IP but IPv6 is supported and enabled. If it's Vumatel I can arrange for a static IP if we have one available but there is no IPv6 support on Vumatel.

I currently have a Vuma Gpon network(one with ONT and router currently running 100 up and down). So would you be able to organize that static IP Address as I have problem where the internet goes down when vuma changes IP Addresses every month.

On Vuma GPON we do not provide a static IP. We assign an IP to the router mac via DHCP we do not use pppoe. It's unlikely that the IP will change unless we move some subnets around or your router mac address change. Native IPv6 will work from the get go.

Sounds good, how would I got about transferring over to you guys? And what router to you guys supply your clients with?

You would need to cancel your current service with your ISP.

Signup for a migrate in service here.

We supply the Huawei AX3 router for free. It's yours to keep even if you do cancel your line eventually with us. R249 delivery fee or collection at our office for free.

And from VOX to Afrihost on Frogfoot? Can it happen relatively seamless?

With FrogFoot there is a 2 step when a client changes ISP.

1st step. Previous ISP submit a cancellation ticket.
2nd step. New ISP places and order. This order will be put on hold until the previous ISP has Accepted the Early Release.

Once Early Release is accepted we can re-submit the order to the FrogFoot order queue and then the order gets pushed for activation.

If the previous ISP takes long or refuse to accept the Early Release there is delays. Even if the previous ISP loaded the cancellation ticket the line is still with them for 1 month after the cancellation hence the Early Release request.
