Hi,

I am looking to sign-up to Switchtel and looking at either their single voice SIP line (R50p/m) or their fully hosted PBX with IVR, extensions, 4 channels, etc. for R350 pm

Both you just need a SIP phone, no PBX on your side required.

But it also allows growth where you can keep your number and have your own PBX on-site.

But for me right now, hosted is perfect.

So has anyone here use or have used them and what can you say about the quality and service?

Many Thanks
Nick

Hi Nick,

I looked at Switchtel but for no major reason that I can remember, I went for Clearvoice.

I have a hosted PBX with them - they charge around R80 per month per extension, plus call charges. I also ported my telkom number to them and that number rings on my hosted PBX now as well as the SIP number they gave me.

I have two phones at my shop and a third extension at my home.

I originally bought SNOM320 handsets and I still use one at my home - it works well. At my shop I've recently moved over to Siemens A580IP's - if I were to do things again I would go this route from the beginning.

Bandwidth-wise, I have a 4MB DSL at my shop from Webafrica. It's the upload speed which is critical and I had to upgrade from their base offering to get decent, consistent call quality. At home I have a 384k connection with bandwidth from Axxess and the call quality is bad 8 out of 10 calls. I'm looking to upgrade to 1MB DSL.

I hope this has helped you, even though I never answered you original question. :)

Regards, Brett.

Hi Brett,

Thanks so much for your post. Nope didn't answer my question lol but actually asked another concern I had and what actually made me go to a hosted PBX in the first place: bandwidth!

Thanks for your bandwidth tips. I currently have iBurst and in a bad signal area so my attempts of getting a PBX to work have failed although my lack of knowledge of PBX didn't help either.

I am "upgrading" to 384 MWEB uncapped so guess I will have to upgrade soon again although 8/10 isn't bad.

The great thing about using this kind of service is the flexibility as we are just starting out so one line is all we need but would like to grow as we need more lines and still keep the same number while we move into permanent premises.

With all that said, are you happy with Clearvoice on the 4mb line?

I've been using Switchtel for awhile now, for inbound calls also done some setups for outbound calls. Works perfectly, call quality is great, and Greg's support is excellent. I'd definitely give Switchtel a thumbs up.

Awesome, thanks warwickw, good to hear :)

We use switchtel and their service is awesome but the call rates were higher than competitors so I was looking at bringing it in house. I hear that their call rates are coming down so we may stay with them yet.

We have the hosted pbx with 20 extensions at the moment which may need to increase soon.
