Anyone want to swop a PCMCIA modem for my desktop modem?

Its about 2 years old, still works perfectly but i'd prefer the PCMCIA modem for ease of travel. (I'll include the antenna as well. Its one of those small portable ones with suction cups one)

Thanks

Roddy

um... mines a desktop modem. I'm looking for a pcmcia one

Roddy I would SERIOUSLY recommend you think carefully about that. The PCMCIA modem is about 40% less effective (thumb suck figure) than the desktop modem for picking up signal. Unless you are going to a few predetermined sites where signal is known to be strong, I would not suggest that you go ahead with the deal you are suggesting.

The only problem with the PCMCIA modem is the antenna. Radio-wise, they can do the same thing. The unidirectional ant in my view, is a feature that might make the PCMCIA more reliable if you position the ant correctly.

Here are the specs from the IPWireless site:

PCMCIA:
# Power Output: +24 dBm (+1dB-3dB) maximum output power at 5 volts
# AWGN Receive Sensitivity (with receive diversity):
-110dBm (+/- 2dB) / code for 7.68Mcps
-113dBm (+/- 2dB) / code for 3.84Mcps
Internal Antenna: Uni-Directional Gain 1dBi Vertical Polarisation

# Power Output: +24 dBm (+1dB -3dB) maximum output power at 5 volts
# AWGN Receive Sensitivity (with receive diversity):
-110dBm (±2dB) /code for 7.68 Mcps
-113dBm (±2dB) /code for 3.84 Mcps
Internal Antenna: Omni Directional Gain 0-2dBi Vertical Polarisation

Looks pretty much the same to me. I have, of course not ever tried a PCMCIA modem, so I'd be likely to side with ProAsm and Connect's opinion, if it is based on experience with the PCMCIA modems.
