As for the heroine bushes that is also not that far fetched since heroine is extracted from opium which in turn is produced from Papaver flower seeds...
And the addons that got people banned (most were just suspended) were the stuff like fishermans toolbox ver 1 that automaticaly fished while you were afk... Since then the addon scripting have more limmiting functions. There are rules regarding what addons may do and what not, so it is not as simple as an addon is just an addon. I am using a lot of addons so I am not against it and it is not against the rules using them, but some addons do exploit game mechanisms and if caught you most likely will get banned.
