sygic on iPhone (GPS)

HI, im looking for gps software for my iphone, SA maps if possible.. ive read on the iphone thread that sygic is the best, but i cannot see anything on their website about supporting SA maps? am i missing something? :)
 
if someone has the "link" for sygic south africa v7.72 please PM me *wink*
 
It is possible to run Sygic with SA maps on the iPhone, but it takes a small amount of effort.

Firstly, you need a jailbroken iPhone, and you need some basic understanding of either SSH or other ways of working on your phone's file system.

In a nutshell, you need to install any of the Sygic apps available from the Appstore. A bit of Googling might reveal a "cheaper" alternative, if you know how to install IPAs. Next you need to download the SA map (do a search for it on this forum, and you'll find a couple of links), and replace the map of whichever Sygic laction you initially installed with the SA map (you'll have to rename the SA map to the same name as the existing map on your iPhone).

For instance, my Sygic was originally the Australian version. So now, when it loads up, it says it is loading the maps for Ozzie, but instead it loads the SA map. Works absolutely perfectly, and the interface is better than a Garmin Nuvi or even Garmin MobileXT (if you ask me).

Im downloading the SA maps now... 4x126MB zip files, hope that is everything :)
 
mmm, is it even necessary to install the maps? I just installed the sygic South Africa version (77MB ipa) through itunes, and when it starts up it says "Multimap South Africa Loaded" and it seems to have all the maps for SA?

Well, i tested it today, its very laggy when in 3D mode, 2D worked a bit better, but he GPS seems to be a bit behind, when it says 100M then im probably 20m away, its says turn left when I already turned, things like that... its very slow to recalcuate route... so not sure :(

you seem to be having lots of software problems , can any sygic users respond how the navigation is working on their fones
 
I just downloaded the files that was posted in this thread from rapidshare, install the sygic aus and replaced the map, it seems much snappier, but have to test it first...

Weird, I've been using Sygic a lot lately. Works great for me.
