iCloud simply won't work in large areas of South Africa simply as there is no signal or, at best, GPRS. There is a need to sync contacts, calendar, notes and tasks between phone/tablet/computer, via Bluetooth, USB or wireless DIRECTLY and NOT via the Internet.
There are many places just 20+ km from Cape Town city bowl where there is NO mobile reception, let alone landlines. iCloud?? No way!! http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=129302&sid=816b5bc404767c3d28bddf0dc0daa1f4
Prior to Mountain Lion and iOS6, this was easy but as a non-Apple user, I understand that Apple users as of late are being forced through the cloud. If this is true, it is like Mercedes-Benz building by hand the mighty Gelandewagen with three diff-locks and immense capability. Take it outside of SA, fill up with 500ppm and gone is your warranty!
Apple is carved out of solid metal with 0 micron precision and then goes on to be useless in much of our country, let alone the Namib.
Is there a viable solution or should I remain being a cheapsk8 and use Linux? Or re-reneg8 back to the Hell of G8s?
Any wisdom, please.....?
