I want to ask a question regarding how does the speed you sync at effect your SNR/Attenuation. Is there any other major factors (Things I can control/do) than could affect my SNR/Attenuation.

I have the 4mb line and have been getting frequent disconnects and sync loss during peak hours - 5pm-10pm.

My SNR is normally around 14/11 or 13/12. Line attenuation is normally 38/20.

So I phoned Telkom and asked to drop the line speed in the hope of getting a more stable sync. First they told me that they are unable to do this on my line. (lol which idiot did they have manning the phones)

So I logged a fault. The next day the technician who works in my area called (Hey really good service for once - Thanks Owen) and asked what the problem was.

So I explain the sync issues and told him I did call the centre and they said they couldn't drop my speed. He says ok he'll handle it.

My sync speed has now been reduced to 2mb but my SNR and line attenuation is roughly the same. SNR 14/12 ...line attenuation 38/20

I only live about 1km(and a bit) away from the exchange, am I at the limit of my signal strength in that I won't be able to get any better?

Do you think the lines in the area are old and thats the reason why I am unable to get a better SNR/Attenuation?
Any other reasons why my SNR/Attenuation won't get any higher?
Would you suggest trying another router? I have the TelkomMEGA 100WR Router(Came with Closer5 - Contract[Not me my dad ;P])
Downgrade further to 1mb?

If I'm still gonna get frequent disconnects I think I'll get them while using a 4mb rather than a 2mb line...

phone them and ask them to load you up with a 2meg static profile.
2048...

when i recently spoke with a saix engineer - he said due to the distances they have 1024,2048,3072 static profiles.

i did my request and they complied.

weird if u stay within 1km from exch and u receive errors ...VERY!

cheers

I have been downgraded to 2mb.

The techi who handles our area is pretty cool, phoned this afternoon after he changed it to 2mb and told me to monitor tonight and that he'll phone tomorrow to check the situation. (Hes really good).

Since their has been no change so far (Still sync loss) I might have to go to 1mb. If no change I want to go back up to 4 and ask him to check cables, maybe he can get them relayed. Who knows.
