I have a Desire S and I want to do a full Backup/Sync but I am not running any windows office programs. I am using Thunderbird and Open Office. When I want to sync Calender and People using HTCSync it doesn't give me an option. Can anybody help??

Go Contact Sync - sync your contacts with with gmail
Google Calendar Sync - for your calender, with google calender
Works for me. Only problem is that google now knows even more about me!

I don't want to sync to google or hotmail etc I want to save it on my pc so when I get my next HTC in Jan I can just move it over.
Like Skerminkel said about google knowing everything about a person. Not cool. Just my opinion.

Well if you used default settings, tough as its already synced to Gmail, besides if you use Gmail at all they already know who your friends are (They read your mail).

I actually prefer to use that method as it happens seamless without any worry, like when I want to edit any contacts on my phone I just open Gmail on my PC go to contacts and edit them there including pictures, my phone gets updated within seconds after submit. The bonus is you dont have to change anything when you buy a new phone, just log into your Google account and all your info comes to the new device.

But yes I get it some people think they are in control of their data for them there is always other places like say Lookout has a built in online backup or Astro file manager that can create a local file and restore to other phones.

You are right, but Morpheos wants to sync/backup his Outlook data as well. That gives Larry and his chums a lot of extra data to do no evil with!

Ok so i checked my settings and it is syncing with google but all my contacts are on " phone memory " so it doesnt sync them to gmail. How do I change that?

Dam haven't used a stock ROM in ages, but I am sure if you open contacts and select menu there should be a Sim contacts/import option in there somewhere.

There is an option to copy to sim but that will split up peoples details, home - cell -work etc. Will gmail keep them paired together?

I want to back this stuff up so I can run MIUI.

I dont know what will happen if you copy it from the sim, Split or keep together but I do know you can fix it in Gmail just goto the contacts sections and edit the people you need.

PS: how did you keep them together as the last time I checked SIM cards only store one number per name.... I may be mistaken.

Oh and have you checked your Gmail contacts do this before you do the copy, you might be surprised and find that they already there.

Copying to sim does split them, thats the problem.

I did check my gmail account and there was only 1 contact there, I accidently saved it to my "gmail contact list" when I first go t my new phone and added a new number.

There must be a way to copy the contact from my "phone" contacts to "gmail" contacts on the phone.

Maybe I'm waisting my time with this and I must just copy to sim and regroup the contacts another time.

Am I missing something here? If your contacts already have more than one field saved, that means that they are NOT being stored on your SIM.

If you go to Settings and then Accounts & Sync, it should show the Google account(s) that are linked to your phone. Click on that account. Is Sync contacts enabled?

Ok let me try explan this again.

If I go to People then View it show a grid of contact that can be displayed.

Under Google there is only 1 contact
Under Phone there are 155 contacts

So now the problem is if I sync contacts it only syncs Google contacts and not Phone contacts.

I want it to either do both or move the Phone contacts to Google contacts.

I hope this is clearer now. :(

Does your ROM have the Import/Export function? If yes, you can export to sd card (select phone). then import from sd card (select your google account).
