I recently saw in the mybb competition that synology has an AI Photo app.

Has anyone with a synology server used this yet? I am looking for an alternative to storing on google as I dont want to pay for more storage (currently on R39 for 200GB). I do find Google's AI very helpful in searching for a photo.

Why are you posting tracking links? Surely this wasn't needed? utm_source=SynologyPhotos_page&utm_medium=MyBroadband_forum_recruit&utm_campaign=2022_AF_May_PhotoBackup

Copied from a Mybroadband post by Mybroadband. What is the correct link?

So have you used it ? What is it like? Good alternative to Google Photos?

I have not used it, it seems to be a fairly new app, or it has not caught my attention in the past.

Edit: Seems like it has been available since December 2020, just never got my curiosity

Have you looked at nextcloud? I havent used photos on it. But apparently its kinda good. I just use Nextcloud for storing documents on my unraid server

I have a Synology.

Still have my microserver and have been wanting to put Nextcloud on it, but haven't found the time yet.
Get a free unraid license (60 days free) and try it out. Its the easiest way to try nextcloud simply

Been using Photos since 6.2 I'm now on DSM 7.1 where they merged Moments and Photos together, the AI works well for me, I really enjoy the app, if I want to show photos or videos on the TV its damn fast which is what I was looking for.
Search is also fast.

Photostructure comes a close second.

Also worth mentions are
Photoview
Piwigi

How many GB of photos/vids do you have? I am currently sitting at 400GB over the last 20 years sitting in both gphoto and OneDrive (and some iCloud) .. while I prefer to keep them there and pay the cost, thinking I should fire up my Synology (thanks MyBB for letting me win one ) and give it a shot. It's an entry level Synology so afraid it could fall over with the volume. More importantly, I don't think I would have the willpower to apply tags to all the faces again for face recognition

Sitting at 167GB incl videos

The first sync and AI scan took ages but I added over 100GB one shot.
Lot faster now.

Hi bud, some screenshots for you, most are pretty self explanatory but will add that as I do not have uncapped internet I do not use all the really amazing streaming an remote viewing and access stuff synology has so sharing screens are limited.

Cool. Will install it then and see how it goes. Was hoping for a long term user for stuff like issues and how useful AI is. Cause my google has ran out of space and need to urgently make a plan.

Its a really amazing device. If they added an hdmi port I would ditch windows

I am also using it, running DSM7 as a VM om proxmox.
