Job Description
As one of our system administrators, you will be responsible for supporting the PayFast systems: both public and private. You will be responsible for the design, implementation and support of a high availability Linux Enterprise environment.

Duties will involve design documentation, hands-on hardware installation, enhancing existing systems and replacing and restructuring legacy systems. This environment relies on virtualization technologies (Xen on CentOS) and Open Source technologies (Apache, MySQL, MongoDB, memcache, nginx etc.)

The successful candidate is expected to be effective as an individual contributor, team player and a champion for results and incremental improvement.

Security is of paramount importance and experience with PCI-DSS will be a major plus.

We are interested in candidates with 4+ years of demonstrable experience and who have had a background in working on large-scale web initiatives.

Desired Skills and Experience
Responsibilities

  • Configure and build new Linux servers for production and development use
  • Develop and maintain procedures to comply with security policies and IT best practices
  • Develop and maintain documentation of systems configurations and procedures
  • Work with other staff regarding configuration, backup/recovery and security issues
  • Monitor systems via applications, log files and sanity checks
  • Maintain DNS services and domain names
  • Database maintenance and implementations
  • Administer multiple Linux servers running in high availability environment
  • Perl and shell scripting to automate aspects of systems maintenance
  • Serve as an escalation point to resolve problems in Linux servers and users environment
  • Work closely with technical team members
  • Must be able to troubleshoot complex issues quickly and effectively
  • Support and troubleshoot internal systems
  • Research and evaluation of new technologies for our environment

Core competencies & Qualifications

Along with your outstanding drive for excellence, the successful candidate will bring with them:

  • 4+ years of experience administering Red Hat, CentOS or similar
  • Linux certifications advantageous
  • Enterprise level Linux or CentOS/Redhat Administration experience
  • Strong working knowledge of virtualization technologies (XEN)
  • Strong knowledge of DNS and network tools (ping, trace route, etc.)
  • Strong scripting knowledge: Perl scripting, shell scripting and command line utilities
  • Knowledge of traditional database systems (MySQL, Postgres) and replication required
  • Knowledge of NoSQL database systems (MongoDB) a plus
  • Knowledge of basic TCP/IP and internet protocols required
  • Knowledge of SAMBA, LDAP, NFS, SMTP is required
  • Knowledge of SAN/NAS and/or shared storage technologies a plus
  • Knowledge of mail MTAs (Postfix) a plus
  • Knowledge of good security practices required
  • Knowledge of and experience with PCI/DSS a plus
  • Experience with Asterisk (Elastix) a plus
  • Experience administering mixed environment (Linux, Windows & Os-X) a plus
  • Experience with Mikrotik routers a plus
  • After-hours and weekend work will be sometimes required

It's hard to define the money as it would be a wide range. We're prepared to pay well for someone with good experience, or less for someone with the right attitude and aptitude who could learn. Haven't found many who have solid experience yet with Linux HA Environments.

If you can manage multiple servers, shared storage environments, fully redundant mesh networks, multi server MySQL replication, redundant routing configurations within stringent security parameters, then we'll show you the money ;-)
