I was wondering why recently my study sounded like a server room and PC was about to take off, when I noticed this morning that my system fan had died and probably not worked for the past few weeks :/ My CPU is running at between 50-55 degrees at the momen.t

I need to get a enw fan now. Could a total newb actually install one of these? Is it plug and play? Are they expensive? Are there brands and models that I should use? Do the blow coolerair in the case, or suck hot air out?

Thanks for any information on this.

System fans sucks air out of the case.

It is easy to replace, depending on where the fan is situated.

If it's in the PSU, your best (and quickest) bet is to buy a new PSU, but if you don't want to, go to any PC shop, and ask them for an 80x80 PSU fan.

You'll have to open your PSU after unplugging it, and remove the old fan, and solder the new fan's leads in.

There's also directional arrows on the fan showing which direction it turns and where the air blows out.

If you don't want to do it yourself, remove the PSU and take it to any competent PC shop and request that they replace the fan for you.

If it is the PSU fan don't solder the fan to the board, it's too easy to mess something up, instead cut the wires as close to the old broken fan as possible, then just rewire the new fan to the old fan wires, simple and it works.

Be sure to reattach the fan the right way round, first turn on the PC with the old fan still where it is and check which way the fan blows air. Then plug in the new fan and make sure it blows the air the same way.

The words system fan and cpu would say to me that it isnt a power supply fan which u 2 went on about...???

If your cpu is old chances are you will struggle to find a cpu fan. Take your box to Budget Technologies or somewhere that knows what they are doing and get them to fill you in.

while we're on this topic, I need to replace the fan in my PSU. I have a coolermaster Realpower and it is WAY too loud. Anyone know of a walk in shop in Cape Town/Durbanville area where i could pick up a 120mm dual ballbearing fan?

good question. which fan is it exactly that is gone?

I dunno the term, but these monitoring programs do say system fan. In layman terms, it the fan at the back of the PC .. screwed to the case
