Hi all,

I have two AMD systems that power off when plugging in a Huawei E220 USB modem, the system specs are identical: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000 on a Gigabyte GA-M55SLI-S4 with 1Gig of RAM. I know the Modem works as I have tested it on other systems and it works.

Any help would be appreciated.

Which Operating System do you have installed, e.g. Windoze heXPee 32-bit or 64-bit?

The first place to start, is to check for and apply the latest BIOS version for your 2 Gigabyte GA-M55SLI-S4 mainboards.

Also note that if you're using a 64-bit Windoze OS, there are currently no 64-bit manufacturer [Huawei] drivers available.

What happens if you plug the modem into the pc while its off then boot. Also a mate of mine had the same problem but it was with all usb devices. Have you tried different ports.

I am running Win XP 32 bit - but downloading latest BIOS drivers now, as for what happens when powering up with device plugged in - the system stalls at first P.O.S.T screen after RAM count and hangs there.

OK it appears to be a BIOS issue new update loaded and everything tested OK - Thanks for the input guys and gals.
