Considering systematically going through a cookbook one recipe at a time...

Maybe like 1 per weekend cause I'd need to specifically go shopping for ingredients.

Has anyone done something like this?

I'd probably focus on techniques rather than random recipes.
I mean - do you really want to make another stew or muffin when it's all basically the same principle?
Maybe pick a particular cuisine (thai, indian etc) or a particular cooking method (grilling, roasting etc.) or a process (making pasta, dumplings etc) and find recipes that'll allow you to learn something you can apply elsewhere.

Fair enough.

Indian seems like the easiest place to start.

After a quick review of the cooking book I'm def not doing the 1 by 1 thing anymore...there are way too many sheep's head etc recipes in there (which I'm sure is great but not for me). :erm:

Get "Cook with Jamie" by Jamie Oliver as a start.

He covers mixing flavours and the why of things rather than just the how.

Nice thing is there's so many quality cooking blogs that focus on certain cuisines. High quality photos and comments often make them preferable to recipe books, tho it's just the time finding them.

Look forward to seeing some pics in the food threads of your adventure :).

Heh.

Jamie Oliver also has a nice android app.

Plenty of videos and has built in shopping lists and the like.

hmm...think i might have a kindle ebook or two by him. Will have a look at that + the app. Thanks.

With possibly a misadventure in between (fluffy pastry for a pie is likely to be the first).

All part of the learning I guess. :) Thanks for advice

More money = better cooking in my experience.
Thankfully not constrained on that front.
