Systray app only works with USB

Hi Sihen,

Given that:

The iBurst_Terminal UTL system tray application only detects & communicates with a UTD/UTC via a virtual com port (on USB for UTD, PCMCIA/PCCard for UTC), but not when your UTD is attached via ethernet.

I would like to find a way of getting the iBurst_Terminal UTL system tray application to work with my UTD when it is attached to my PC via ethernet.

On Wednesday, I asked Tshepo the following question (btw Tshepo called me, another example of good service, thanks):

Can I establish the connection to the iBurst network using the UTD's ethernet port, while also using the UTD's USB port to allow the system tray application to monitor the UTD & signal strength etc[?]

No

The reason I asked is I had a feeling it probably was not a good idea, but I would really like to know if it has actually been tested[?]

Also, is there a user guide for the UTD (there wasn't one in my box or the CD)[?]

The user guide would be very valuable, not only for those of us that eagerly run into any new technology. But definately for your everyday user.

ic as far as I know you cannot use the iburst utils while using ethernet, is there a reason for you wanting to do this, your lights on your modem should give you a good indication of signal.

I have never tried using usb and ethernet as the same time, maybe give it a try and let me know if it works.

I will how ever ask around today bout the iburst utils and I will let you know ASAP.

Hi Sihen,

Almost 8 days ago, when I first started off with the UTD attached via USB, I found the (rather basic) info that the systray app offered quite useful, reassuring maybe.

I expect that there will over time, be other info available in future releases of that app.

I know that I can look at a bunch of lights, but I am also keen to know signal strength expressed as a %, which the lights don't tell (at least not accurately).

Example, when that app showed 80% signal all 5 signal lights were on, now you could mistake that to mean 100% just looking at the lights.

For the moment I prefer to wait for you to come back to me about whether it is safe to have both USB & RJ45 ethernet cables attached similtaneously - the last thing I want is my UTD melting down like Chernobyl.

I have tried using both USB and ethernet at the same time with little joy.

Ok, just tried this, long story short - same results regardtv had - usb doesn't work with rj45 plugged in at the same time.

My observatsions with both rj45 & usb plugged in at both ends:

1. Prior to attempting any connection: the systray app does not display UTID, does not show signal strength;
2. You can connect via PPPoE;
   • Still no info from systay app;
3. You cannot connect via USB (iBurst Terminal)- it fails after a lengthly delay;
   • Strangely enough the systray app does show Total bytes sent but nothing else is updated;
4. No Chernobyl meltdown occurred;

The systray app gives you info when UTD is attached via USB only.

What is interesting is - from chats with rodent - even the USB drivers emulate pppoe so all the data is sent as pppoe - the UTD SHOULD be able to give data via ethernet without hassles ....

I tried changing the name of this topic (several times) but got timeouts, wanted to call it Systray app only works with USB.

Sihen: I haven't asked WBS this Q yet, on iBurst.co.za - Downloads there was a file called iBurst_117.exe (not there anymore), was that older than what is available now, in UTD Windows.zip (looks like 2.14)[?]

Also, is there a newer s/w version planned, or is 2.14 considered stable/functional enough[?]

Another thing, which I must admit - I'm a twit, I didn't bother looking at:
