Are they just a fad or worth the hype? How about neoflam? Yeah it sounds like some medical ointment. Makro have a 10 piece T-fal set for R800 seen here. Vuvuplaza have two frying pans for R350 seen here

Or rather just go for stainless steel in my pursuit to be a world-class gourmet chef?

T-fal pans are fantastic. I have been using it for years. In the red dot is a pattern. When you warm it up the pattern will dissapear. That means the pan is ready. This is a huge advantage. With other pans you never know when the pan is ready. One tip, dont use the highest setting. Rather use medium heat. You will find the balance after a while. I saw the Tfal pan at my sister who have been using it for years.

was also looking at the t-fal set at makro the other day....

Get T-Fal stainless steel pans. The only actual non-stick stuff I've ever found, and pretty cheap at about R250 per pan. All those Teflon bull**** things start sticking after a while and they cost like R500 to R800.

Woah, let's not get carried away now. I'm not willing to spend Le Creuset money, unless there's a massive special somewhere.

isnt le Creuset much more expensive?
this tfal seems like decent beginner/bachelor set...

Yep, i'm probably going to use it more to knock people over the head than to actually cook with.

My T-Fal frying pans have lasted well, as with all non-stick (teflon coated) you just need to look after them properly
