T5450 - 63bit or 32bit ubuntu?

I would use what everyone else is using - then you can get better support as well because you will be using the same binaries.

For a laptop with a T5450 and 2Gb RAM, should I use the 32bit or 64bit version of Ubuntu?

Is there any hassle (with Gutsy, I'm aware of Hardy Heron's approach, but need something now) with the 64bit version?

It's for my brother, who is not fully clued up, but is on 8000km away from me, so I can't help him.

Would it be worth it for him to use the 64bit version?

I've read of 64 bit Ubuntu users having issues with Skype because one has to install some 32 bit libraries to get it to work.
This may be the case with other distros like FC and openSUSE too.
There are workarounds but it would appear that some novice users struggle with this.

No point in 64 bit unless you have more than say 4gb ram - have to use alot of 32 bit libraries and not noobie friendly.
