Anyone interested in starting up a mesh in table view/blouberg? interested parties?

im interested

What equipment will be needed\whats the estimated damage

i know a few buddies who dont read here that will also be interested

i already have the hardware, will be getting my dsl soon.

Definitely interested! What area exactly do you stay in? Street name would be fine, or directions from the bottle store at PnP centre ;)

well i stay just off gie rd, the other side of table view from the pnp bottle story. we need to find a central high point for us to use. we abouts are the rest of you in T.V.

Theres a tower close to the fruit n veg/7-11 area, dunno who's it is but most ppl can see it in the area.. my building is close to the beachfront in bloubergstrand though, cant see the tower from here.. we definitely need people to close the gaps!

Im on the Sunningdale/Parklands side. MaD, I can see your building and Im sure I got a view towards the back of Gie Rd

Mad, im in sunningdale, near to the Pick 'n Pay, westside village. I have dsl 384 uncapped and want to join the mesh, please pm me.

i live just off jansens ave, 1 or 2 roads off from merlot (where those shops are... and the spar\engen)

that tower next to fruit&veg is full of antennas. how would we find out whose it is? would they mind some extra little antennas. i also have 2 sites in wood drive(near merlot) that i could put up an antenna as well as near the 2nd traffic circle at the top of wood drive. i already have a link from gie rd to wood drive, but it is up and down, to many trees and antenna not high enough for perfect LOS. table view is full of little hills making it a bitch to get antenna lined up 100%. the ppl with hardware, what types of hardware have you got? i have wrt54g, x-micro ap and a senao client pci card. i have had great success with the senao 12dbi yagi and had trouble with the senao 8dbi omni. any one know where i can get a great big antenna pole 5+m ? the 3m is not high enough!!

Im down in Helmsley Crescent but , I got great big flats all around. Might be able to get a signal out towards Sunningdale and down Gie Road.

For a pole, why not buy some 42mm S/S exhaust pipe from a zorst store?

Well Im moving out of this apartment as its going to be renovated so looks like I'll be back down on land again.. what a bitch.

Will prolly look for a place in sunningdale/blouberg or maybe west beach but something with somewhat of a view, perhaps 2nd story or so. Poles we can surely steal from a building site? :)

mufasa - i have a x-micro 108Mbps router, Poynting patch and a 11b Senao modem with PoE which can double as an AP.. its in external housing, ala Uninet style. Will maybe put a phone number on it if its visible from the road at my next place so that more ppl can join in the fun.

Best thing we can do is chat with someone in this building on the 10th floor or so and ask if we can put a repeater in their kitchen window in exchange for internet access. The building has a huge view and sticks out like a Telkom price on a telecoms report, its big and not nice to look at.

x-micro 108Mbps router

same unit i have, ok now to need to get organized, who was some nodes up we can try and spot. my node is up if anyone want to try and see it point towards caltex/gie rd and let me know if you can see it.

what hardware do i need to buy to get going? can you give me a list of recommended stuff? Is my stock 11 b/g card any good if i can get it to operate as an A/P?

oh yeah , I would like to then tie in with someones broadband , as i'm still f-ing around with dialup.

what am i on about .. the router will also server as the A/P right?

So i would only need to get the router, some connectors, RF cable and set up a cantenna or summin?

Anyone got a link to a how-to?

Ok .. here's a question for ya. If I get something like a X micro router hooked up to a neighbours one , would I still be able to use it as an A/P for my own LAN?
