Guys and girls I'm looking at getting a cheap secondhand tablet.

I'm somewhat tech savvy, but not to the extend where I'd kill someone because the one is slightly slower than the other.

Is there any reason why I should for out more for the Tab? Please bear in mind I've never owned a tablet before. :)

Thanks!

Whats your budget, if I may ask? ...or are the two above your only choices?

My budget is about 2k. I might be able to stretch it depending on the recommendations here and whether it's a good deal.

I'm not limited to these two. Both I've seen being used by some of my friends, that's about the only reason.

I am however open to any suggestions. Whichever I do choose to get, I'd like to get the same for my wife, just so that I at least would know how to fix something if she should mess it up. :)

I'm also looking for a "budget" tablet for my old man - something he can browse the interwebs and watch some youtube on. Was also looking at the S7 Slim but at the same time I thought if I could get some entry-level tablet (Chinese or whatever make) that can do the same thing then what's the point in spending the extra Rs.

Then again everyone I know with a tablet either has a Samsung or Apple so I don't know . . .

I'll keep an eye on this thread then

I have the original Samsung Galaxy 7" tab. Using it for work but mainly for my son to play his games on and for the bed time stories. Works perfectly.

Check out the Prestigio 5080c. I'm pretty chuffed with the 5080b and the c has more RAM.

This is basically what I was eluding to, grav80. There seems to be lots of cheaper options (some maybe having more features/power?) than the mainstream stuff on the market. In terms of build quality and warranties etc, I wouldn't know though.

Do you not have any way of getting hold of a Nexus 7? They're currently for sale in the US, UK, Australia and Canada.

It costs about the same as both of the tablets you mentioned, and frankly, it utterly destroys both of them in terms of specs, software, and overall quality. The only problem with the N7 is the sheer difficulty of acquiring one :(

That look decent. I forgot to mention that it needs to have 3g/HSDPA as well. Mainly because I've cancelled my ADSL for the time being. Also it would be nice to be able to use it to surf the net during my commute.

SO the only option is to import it? :(

A guy I work with bought one from PEP. Has 3g iirc and was R1000 (I think!!). Looked pretty nice - came with a decent cover so not sure how nice it was under the cover tho.

But yeah - I think shop around a bit.

Just be careful of the new Nexus 7, seen some SHOCKING Light Bleed pics... will probably be fixed soon. But some very unhappy customers out there.
