Tablets - 3G - will it work on GPRS EDGE?

Hi - I live in a very remote area and can only get GPRS EDGE, I am looking at purchasing a Tablet most of which come with Wifi which is not an option, some take a external 3G modem, am I correct in assuming that provided the modem can step down to GPRS EDGE then the Tablet should work.....or does the fact that its a 3G Tablet mean it will only work on 3G. The other question is, can someone recommend a Tablet that will work with GPRS EDGE......Thanks.... Bruce :wtf:
