I would like to get a Tablet, mainly for reading and studying and then occasionally browsing magazines, viewing movies/series etc.

I am wondering if a 7" screen or 10" would be better for me.

The pros and cons I wonder about so far:
On the 7" I wonder if I would need to zoom in and out/pan all the time, making it a bit frustrating?
And on a 10" I wonder if it wont be to heavy?

Any input or advice would be most welcome. :)

Just get the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Incredible Connection will be having some specials on them soon so keep an eye out.

I had the 10" (iPad) and have changed for the 7" (Galaxy Tab) for portability reasons.
I would suggest a 10". The weight is really not an issue as most tablets are light and easy to handle and I do find the 7" a bit on the small side for reading (full size websites are not fun to browse).

Get a 10", if you read newspapers and magazines you don't really want to go smaller.

Get the Asus EEE Transformer.

Transformer owner here, Love the 10" and yes it can sometime get heavy example when in bed watching a movie, but then I just dock it and let it lay on my chest, plus the keyboard makes a great extra use for the device as I can use it for normal typing when needed.

7" is good for reading ePub's and websites, but I prefer reading comics and magazines that I got via Zinio on 10" so for me 10" works better.

Only Downfall of the Eee Pad can be the lack of 3G but I have Wifi in my house and a Desire HD Phone that can tether so I dont need another contract just for my tablet.

Have an iPad 2, love it. I went and checked out the 10.1" Android tablets at Incredible connection. (acer Ikonia and Galaxy Tab 10.1V) The screens actually seem about the same size as the iPad, certainly not bigger, I find the 4 x 3 ratio of the iPad a more efficient use of space. Also I really prefer iOS to Android 3.0 (they didn't have any with 3.1)

The iPad 2 is surprisingly light for it's size.

Thanks guys, 10" seems to be the consensus. I am in no hurry and would be prepared to wait another couple of months should there be better spec'ed/priced tablets on the horizon.

I prefer Android. I really do like the Asus Transformer but with the lack of a USB port and the need to buy a dock to get one. It becomes a pricey toy... I wonder how the Asus Slider will price.

Money is an object unfortunately :(
I read somewhere that tablet prices are set to drop. I also read that Archos will bring out new honeycomb tablets soon.

Anything else I should be on the look out for?

I'm also looking at getting the Galaxy Tab 10.1v from Incredible, but just need to find out about the warranty period... The Price is R6999...

Haven't you already got a 6 inch cell phone that can surf the web, there is no point at all to a 7 inch tablet, unless you just want to look like a tool and have money to burn on something that will be a paper weight in 3 weeks time... oh yeah and get an Ipad for the love of God, all the other stuff is bollocks......

The HTC Flyer.

Well at Menlyn you can go and try the honeycomb tablets in Incredible connection. I really didn't like them, maybe I'm just biased but I recommend try before you buy.

I will go for the 10", 7" is a waste of money for reading and surfing the web.
Weight of 10" tablet = 300page book so you can't complain about weight of tablet.
Maybe if it is on charge the battery may get bit warm ...
If you getting old and eyes not so good anymore 7" no go even after zooming :-)
I always say if you want a business tool get an I-Pad and for entertainment unit get an A-Pad
I saw dual core capacitive internal 3G tablets at http://www.activetrade.co.za/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=40 for R3150.00

I am keen to know what the avg real world battery time is as the vendors usually overstate it for selling purposes.

On my Transformer I see 8 to 10 hours depending on how much I hammer if. With the dock attached I get upwards of 15 to 16 hours. Pretty much as advertised. Awesome device.
Also got a galaxy tab 7" but cannot comment there as it lays in the drawer. The kids mainly use it.
