Tablets will not kill PCs

I will never buy one! if you have a notebook book and smartphone why on earth would you need a tablet? waste of money if you ask me

lol. this is like saying that a new breed of kiwi fruit is going to kill peaches.

looking at the use case, not the actual technology, you will realize, if anything, tablets will kill books, magazines and newspapers the same way that computers killed slide rulers and paper based calculations.

The only scenario where a tablet will take the place of a computer is where someone had an overpowered, under-used computer in the first place to do what a tablet can do.

And lets not forget, the tablet is speaking to computers in the cloud anyway.

orange stained desktop PC cases with 5 unused redundant optical drives FTW!

Tablets are cool and all but I don't really see the use of them. Smartphones are getting more powerful and Windows 8 will be supporting ARM chips, So the next generation of notebooks should be more power efficient. But hey I would still buy one just to have one.

Its like saying the Nintendo DS is going to kill the PS3.

Let the numbers do the talking: 2010 sales, 400 million PC's vs 20 million tablets.

Umm...both devices target different applications (i.e uses). To say one will will kill the other is retarded, kinda ;like the people who keep annoucing the death of Microsoft.

Could do any online Starcraft 2 gaming on a tablet, so I reckon my desktop will be good for a long time to come :D

if the tablet does not attract 'new' hardware users (i.e. those users who are first time tech users), then partial cannibalism is a possibility. But the chances are that people who use PC/Mac notebooks will also have tablet as a second hardware--so market just grows.

Currently the most popular tablet out there by a long shot, the iPad, is initially inoperable without a PC (iTunes). Cant imaging there are too many non-PC owning tablet users out there.

I think tablets will cannibalise netbook sales though.

I'm currently selling my netbook and plan to replace with a tablet soon.

Yeah tablets are KING if you travel a lot. But you can't play Crysis or BC2 on tablets :D

looks like the user is the one who died in front of the computer, very scary

You might be able to in 2-4 years - just look at the NGP that is going to come out this year. It's scary how fast technology develops. 3 years ago I would say NEVER to gaming on laptop but now it's a whole new different environment.

Yes but first of all...using a touch screen for FPS is even more fail than a gamepad. You need keyboard and mouse for that :) And bigger screens are nice for games. I really don't want a 24" tablet..no thanks :)
Tablets have their place and so do PC's :)

This seems to be a non-issue as you can just ask the store you got it from to activate it for you.

No doubt I will get one but I am prepared to wait until they improve the technology.
Had the chance to test one for a week, very slow and the touch screen was not that great either.

I know 4 people who own noteepads. When they first got them theycouldn't get them out fast enough to do something. Nowadays you rarely see them, and 2 of them don't even carry theirs aound any longer....

I think at Q4 this year, when the quadcore tablets arrive, the sentiment will have changed dramatically.
