So on Black Friday due to the Takealot site crashing so much I struggle to pay for an order I made. On about the 5th attempt it got me as far as the payfast portal but after entering all my details and even accepting the approve it message on my phone the website then said the whole transaction failed and that I had to retry. I then tried again successfully. Later on I realized however that my bank account had been double debited for the purchase.

I sent a message to Takealot immediately asking them to reverse it and went down to my bank. The bank guy I spoke to said it would be faster and easier to cancel via Takealot than via the bank process so I decided to go with Takealot, which in retrospect was probably a mistake.

Anyways, it has now been two weeks and despite multiple follow up queries by me I have yet to receive the money and it is a substantial amount. Any advice on how to proceed with this? Did anyone else have similar issues and go paid out yet?

Also, the name Takealot now seems kinda Ironic.

Sorry about your loss, but I hope you have learnt a hard lesson now. DO NOT DO ONLINE SHOPPING ON BLACK FRIDAY. Well not in this country at least for now, it is chaos and the banking systems just cannot cope even though we get promised year after year that it will be fine this year.
I went into my local PnP and bought 2kg of Cheddar for R99, that was my black friday special :)

Daylight robbery is not fair hey.

I think you should've rather waited when it said it didn't go through. Then contact Takealot with all the relevant information and details. It is also a risk to shop online on black friday especially on websites that are known to be problematic. I just hope it wasn't a lot of money, keep trying with Takealot, I can imagine they are dealing with a lot of issues right since black friday.

You can go with the bank but there will be a charge and may take up to 3 weeks.

This exact thing happened to me last year. Don't bother emailing them, it's a complete waste of time. I called them and explained the situation to them. Lady on the phone was very helpful and I had my money back in a few days.

How long do they get to keep the money before I can call it robbery? If I accidentally took money from you and you told me I did it and provided evidence, if I keep the money at that point after agreeing there was a mistake what else do you call it?

Robbery was deliberate after they acknowledged the fault in writing on the 23rd November and then hung on to the money for weeks.

Take the issue up with your bank do they can reverse it. Really not an issue here.

If you want a quick response: Spam them on Facebook, Twitter and Hellopeter.

If want a quick refund, its better to ask them for credit else they will process it only next year January.
