Hi all

Does everyone else also have this problem with Takealot:

I often find good deals on Takealot, then order only for them to either send me something completely different (and cheaper) or claim that there "is no stock at the supplier".
Then the usual problem of refunding it as credit by default instead of into my account.

Its happening on every 2nd order now.

It is so annoying I've just started avoiding them completely and order from Amazon.com exclusively.
At least Amazon stands by their price

This doesn't include the two times I got items that are CLEARLY the wrong thing only for the supplier to then "refund"

Not really had this problem except for one item. The only thing that was slightly suspicious was a pulse oximeter I got for my gf. The one I ordered was slightly different from the one I got for my gf, even though it was the exact same item listed on the store. The one I got for my gf is also was more temperamental.

Thing is, I've never, ever experienced this on Amazon. And I've gotten CRAZY deals on Amazon. Like I once bought a table saw blade at 1/10 the price (industrial blade, super high quality brand at R500 when it should cost R5k+). It was clearly was a mistake. Directly after I made the order it was removed from the site (popped up a few weeks alter at the R5k+ price). There were some other cases too. But never do I ever receive a cancellation from Amazon

I take it that Amazon basically gives retailers the option of, either you fulfil that order or you don't exist on Amazon anymore.

Overall at this point I pretty much expect my order to be cancelled with Takealot whenever the deal is in any way good. I say this because I actually rarely order on Takealot anymore but it is quite literally every 2nd order now that has a problem (months apart even)

I've only once received an item (in 2019) that was clearly marked incorrectly on Takealot, I think the item was so obscure though that they probably didn't care.

A rail kit for an APC UPS that costs north of R2k normally, got it for R199

Also don't ask me why these things are so obscenely expensive (normally) for two pieces of metal.

I've only had issues with stuff sold by 3rd parties with 5-7day delivery on the item page.

Seems like you are a bargain hunter, exploiting obvious website errors - then get upset when your deal is not honoured.
Yeah it's my fault they put those prices on the web-site. Also the prices aren't THAT good, they are just low.

Do you blame people who get robbed because their security wasn't good enough?

There is an actual law that requires you to honour the prices you offer items at.
Online web-sites skirt around this with "out of stock".

This is not true, there is more to it.

As you know, contract has two elements: Offer and Acceptance.

However, it has long been held in our courts that a price on display does not constitute an offer in the legal sense. It is called "an invitation to do business". It is the prospective purchaser who makes a legal offer, and a valid contract comes into being when the seller accepts that offer. What is often at issue is when exactly the acceptance takes place. Obvious mistakes are generally and rightly good grounds for saying a contract never came into being.

Talks about prices not being that good, but also brags about buying an item at 1/10th of the price LMAO

Almost as crazy that the CPA wouldn’t apply to Amazon.
Is one retailer better than the other not really.
Do yourself a favor and try find YouTube videos or posts about people complaining about Amazon as a customer.
They are insanely rare.

The flip side, on 9gag and reddit there is a thread now and then about "Amazon is killing small businesses, stop supporting them".
Then when you actually read the thread the responses make it obvious why.

They deliver quickly, you get what you ordered, they take back what you don't want no matter what.
They set the bar really high because customers, especially those with a lot of money, have high standards.

The point was that Amazon that actually honors the price no matter what.

Are you one of these baby boomer SA "business" owner types that see the customer as the enemy?

Again stop making assumptions, they may do it but it’s not official.
Otherwise you may be making another thread because Amazon doesn’t handle warranty on your behalf when it isn’t their product.

I've experienced the same a few times. Cancelled orders as item were out of stock but clearly still in stock on the website. I fought a few times on this - won some, lost some.

Tried to severely limit what I spend with Takealot now. My son had saved up for something for a while and we bought it off Amazon in Europe. Took fully 4 days to arrive in JHB and clear customs, and arrived at our door yesterday. If I'd ordered Monday morning and not Monday evening, it would have been here within the week.
Takealot takes just as long to send something from CPT --> PLZ.
All my purchases this year have been off Amazon.com/.co.uk/.de
