Takealot Confusion?

I ordered a camera bundle from Takealot last week. The order arrived on time. No problem...

Upon inspection I noticed that the Camera bag included in the order was missing a few components, namely the shoulder strap and the dividers (used to compartmentalise the bag).I phoned them right away and was advised to log a return claim which I did right there and then. I had to explain in detail what was wrong with the order and the course of action I wanted them to take (replace, refund etc.)

I stated my grievance and mentioned that the rest of the order (camera, lenses etc.) was 100% fine and that I only wanted them to replace the bag. They emailed me back the following day and asked me to package the bag for courier collection. The courier picked up the bag on Tuesday. This morning they mailed me and said that they refuse to honour the replacement because I did not include the camera!? I phoned them and was told that without the camera they cannot swop out the camera bag? When they receive the camera they will inspect it for damage - if there is nothing wrong with the camera, they will replace the bag and ship me a new camera (if they have stock!)

So I might end up with a scenario where I have a brand new camera bag and no camera? Is it just me, or is this totally absurd?

They will replace the whole package, not just the bag. I take it the kit was a manufacturer bundle not something takealot put together?
 
I'm guessing your invoice shows camera bundle, inventory control is quite a difficult subject if you have no retail experience

The consultant that I spoke to said that upon inspection of the camera that they will ship the replacement bag immediately as they do have stock of the bag... the camera however is a different story because she could not tell if there was stock available. So there is a possibility that I will get the bag whilst waiting for the camera.
 
To be honest I am not sure? It is a Canon camera and lens kit with a Lowepro camera bag. The camera and lenses were in a Canon branded box, but the bag was packed separately.

Strange explanation. Maybe the consultant is explaining incorrectly. If it's a bundle, it would only make sense for them to want everything back in order for them to ship a replacement bundle. You should probably ask for clarification in writing.

So in their email they *specifically* state that you have to package *just the bag*..? if so, I would refer them to that correspondence.. If not, I dont really see that you have much of a choice but to return the whole bundle and hope that they have the camera in stock..
