Took $ with. Paid in $ and got their currency as change. Take small notes (10,20,50). Exchange rate was 32 to a $ if I remember correct.
Grand Baie has some nice tourist shops and bargain hard
Otherwise rent a bike/scooter and drive around(dangerous roads)
Botanical Gardens are nice but avoid the "tour guides" who basically walk you around and want a tip.. Just pay entrance and walk around
