Talk about rethinking luxury

I can see how other people might like the look of it, but I definitely don't find it all that attractive. I do agree with you though regarding the growth of the Hyundai brand.

Cheap mag wheels make the car look cheap. The whole car has a bold solid look and the wheels make it look like a Carolla!
If they want to design such big wheel arches they should fill it adequately otherwise leave them smaller...

Not bad though a few wannabes might buy it coz it looks like a 'Lexus' I'm sure the inside is fully kitted out.

Corolla??? what are you smoking?

The wheels, yes could be bigger, but they don't look cheap.

Take an A4 page cover the top half of the car where the wheel arch starts and what does the car look like? A Carolla!!
Not gonna stand next to its German counterparts in terms of.... anything. Design, Performance or luxury.

Would make an awesome rent a car though.

Take an A4 page, cover the top half of the page where the wheel arch starts and what does the car look like?.... A chassis... it could be ANY car.

Oh and btw, its a Corolla.....

It will stand next to its German counterparts in terms of most things, Hyundai have done a damn good job of competing with them recently. You have an obsession with the VW Polo which negates your opinion on anything high end.

Polo? No I dont.
They have been doing very well, I know they have and said so many times in the last few months, but to exaggerate it to even come close to even the VW Jetta, its quite a long shot...

Lol you call this car high end!! :D

Not even close to the VW Jetta?!!?!?!? wahahahahaha.....

JK8, you need to smell a bit of the coffee, the Sonata is built to compete with the A4, 3Series and C-Class......and its doing a decent job of that.. its not beating them, but at the same time its not being embarassed by them either.

Yeah, this car is high end... it will cost over R300k more than likely, and that makes it high end....

Well if it cant compete with the Jetta, its going to be embarrassed by the 3 series, C Class and A4!
ell then anyone who has 300K + to spend will obviously choose the more well known "high" end car. If this is high end how do you categorise the A6 and A8?
I thought the price would atleast help this little car sell.

Perhaps is better than the Mazda 6? Those Renault Leguna cars etc. But a bit far from the league of the German cars imo.

Interesting how the car hasnt even been realeased yet and ur already labelling it as "cheap" etc..
I think you should look further than the badge and maybe give it a chance during a test drive...
Honestly, I find the luxury standard german cars somewhat boring and overpriced (especially with the extras).... I am honestly looking forward to test driving this and depending on its pricing am hoping it does something good for the market...

They are possibly being beaten in SA by the models you mention...

But worldwide the Jetta etc are not classed in the same market segment as the Hyundai Sonata JK8....

And you clearly haven't driven a Renault Laguna recently have you?.... they're giving the Germans a damn good run for their money....

I quite like the mazda 6 actually...

I'm with JK8 on this one. A Jetta 6 2.0t with DSG is most likely a better car I reckon.

With new emission tax and people buying down due to the economy etc Hyundai might have something

Well there's a lot of manufacturers in that price range that are making more efficient cars than the new Sonata.

They place this car in the same category as the Audi A6, Merc E Class, BMW 5 Series and VW CC. Thats a 400K category if you didnt know.
Honestly now can this car compete in this segment?
Lets try the other brands. The Volvo S60, Lexus IS250... What others are there? Toyota Camry?

Its not going to well in this category especially up against the big German brands.
But they have sold a few Sonatas over the years, the previous model looked much sleeker very German, understated and decent.
This looks like a Corolla.
Like I said, only Mazda and Toyota need to worry about this car.

A few sonatas?!?!?!

YTD sales for the Sonata are in excess of 100000 units from the US alone from what I can tell... Its one of the top 20 vehicles sold in the states.
