Hi Everyone,

I am in the IT game and have been for a while but when it comes to mobile app development I feel out of my comfort zone.

So many companies "develop apps" yet very few (well the ones I've dived deeper into) seem to be well-established businesses that have well-reviewed portfolios on the play/apple store, nor good support/maintenance options and lack deep software skills if you LinkedIn/Github stalk their employees. Most also don't have any partnership agreements which for me are signals I would use in an evaluation process.

Is this something one should rather look at doing offshore? What are your evaluation criteria?

Can anyone refer some of the good local dev houses that can build cross-platform apps (obviously also able to do some back-end/ integration/cloud work...)? Please try limit this to ones you have personally dealt with.

We built a team offshore. In our experience there are good guys and girls locally but they demand a pretty high rate and you have to wade through a lot of candidates to find them. Will be interesting to see what the others have to say.

There are a lot of companies (in the U.K., know nothing about SA) that provide services over the web and also have companion mobile apps for Android and iOS. Most will subcontract the mobile devs. The larger ones do it in-house. We subcontract ours. I can tell that we will NEVER subcontract to just anyone and the chances of subcontracting to a 1 man show is close to zero :)

Thanks for all the responses so far!

Anyone else have any ideas - have worked with DVT in the QA space, will get more info.

I used to work for them until last month as a senior iOS developer and then later on as their mobile engineering lead. DM me if you want more info or where to direct your query with them.
