May the force be with you in 2017

I went back a couple of pages but did not find any posts that were relevant

Question ;

Are there any in house architects here ?
Anyone involved in drafting , building etc etc ?
On which forums / sites do SA Architects hang out ?

Reason I ask is that I have recently become interested in Architecture and have been burning the midnight oil on Google

I have had a look at all the relevant SA mags most are too light weight for my interest except for HABITAT

https://www.habitatmag.co.za/

It does not look like any mags cover the building side of things as well ?
( Although getting something built involves a lot of different people / skills the whole process is not normally covered "Apartheid" in the construction / building industry)

IF there is any one here that is involved in this industry or interested please chime in.
I do not know if it is possible to talk stuff without arm and a leg hourly charges ?

I am particularly interested in specialised Architecture for semi-arid regions ( Karoo / Kalahari )
There is piles of stuff in the US for their arid areas -- where they have cities in arid areas
Nevada / Arizona / New Mexico / Texas / California

I have looked but from all I can find it seems all we have here is old simple vernacular "architecture" -- which has its place
but
Who wants to live in the 1920's ?

Nobody else wants to build one because the cost just to rotate the home would be ludicrous and the benefit it brings is not worth the money

Spoken like a true South African defeatist
You obviously have NO Architecture genes in your make-up
Or understand the challenge of pushing boundaries
or
Doing stuff to try and make a name for your practice / studio
or
Have much money

Partially Correct

Green sustainable off the grid building is now all the rage ...
NO
The HYPE around Green Sustainable off the grid building -- is now all the rage !
Please supply a list of the formal guidelines that constitute industry acceptable criteria for what constitutes REAL "Green" building ......

Nope, spoken like a person who understands that there needs to be a Cost Benefit to things, regardless of how cool they may or may not be.

Pushing the boundaries is one thing, doing something just because its cool and probably costs over 60% of the build but adds little to the house other than complexity is fscking retarded.

We have many great architects in this country who understand things like that.

Wweelll

Here is the guy that designed it

Maybe you can tell him he was -- complexity is fscking retarded.

Quite happily, and given that the photos of that house seem to be from the 90's at best if not the 80's I have a feeling he may actually agree with me that it was a step too far. Everything he seems to be doing today seems much more in line with what modern architects do, they push boundaries without being retarded about it. Also seems to have dropped that really butt ugly style from his architectural style as well which is a good thing.
