I watched this R2 DVD today. Animated by two people, the story follows a cute cat who tries to travel to Orion to
find her real mother. The world is run by cats and dominated by one megalithic company called KATTY&Co which
has been around for hundreds of years.
Tamala travels to Orion but on her way there she is shot down by an employee of KATTY&Co and lands on
Planet Q - which is co-inhabited by Dogs and Cats. The ubiquitous KATTY&Co tries to take over the postal
network on the planet. Tamala ends up in "Hate City" where she meets up with Michaelangelo - a male cat -
whom she calls Mikko. In exploring the city and its museum Tamala discovers an ancient statue of the
goddess Minerva while also having recurring dreams of a 3D CGI Robotic catwoman ascending an escalator
to the heavens in Tokyo. Much mayhem follows. The anime has a rather dark atmosphere.
The main character resembles Sanrio's HELLO KITTY quite a bit except she smokes,
occasionally behaves a little suggestively and curses like a drunken sailor.
The animation
is mostly B&W and reminiscent of Astro Boy with some 3D CG elements. The story also involves violence.
The film parodies or carricatures a number of other famous trademarks,
including Colonel Saunders from KFC and Mickey Mouse.
The R2 NTSC DVD contains tons of extras, plus an English subtitle track.
