Long story short.

I have a Telkom Mobile SIM that gives me 1 minute free air time for every 3 minutes incoming cell call.

Wanted to do a SIM swap to Micro SIM.

Telkom cannot do a SIM swap to Micro SIM without me losing my accumulated minutes or the package I am on.

What utter bull**** !!!!!

This cant reasonably be true, either you are lying or your agent has no clue, because its simply not true. A simswap does not in any way affect any plan you are on.

Spent 45 minutes with the sales agent trying to do the SIM swap. System would not process the swap.

Sales agent gave me the micro sim and said she will call me today when the sim swap happens.

She called me and said that the system rejected the swap because of the tarriff plan I am on.

And, I object to you telling me I am lying, not cool ......

That place plan is a legacy price plan launched when 8ta first launched. They won't force you to change to a new price plan but I'm pretty sure that all the new developments will exclude that price plan on the system because it is so old. I mean that was 8ta. The company changed names 2 times after that that is how old it is.

You are very lucky to have that price plan actually. I had a sim that was on that price plan but it got disconnected because of inactivity....

Anyways you most likely have a big simcard that you can cut. At the back of the simcard the metal part would be big too. Don't worry about that. Even if you cut through the metal part the sim will still work. Just don't cut the centre. So you need to get a micro sim and place it on the centre and then cut.

@ cavedog, thanks for that seems that I am correct.

@ rakabos3 .... you really should confirm your facts before calling people liars !

Just confirmed the Telkom online chat.

1:10:00 PMValentia: Thank you for contacting Telkom Mobile, you’re chatting to Valentia, how may I assist you?

1:11:12 PM You: I have one of the original 8ta black sims that gives 1 minute free airtime for every 3 minutes received. I tried to do a sim swap to a micro sim and was told it was not possible as I would lose the tarriff plan and my airtime !

1:12:09 PMValentia: Good day xxxxxx, Thank you for the enquiry.

1:12:57 PMValentia: Which tarrif plan do you currently have?

1:13:26 PM You: Please read my message ! It is the original 8ta black sims that gives 1 minute free airtime for every 3 minutes received

1:14:07 PM You: It is prepaid

1:15:07 PMValentia: The reason for my question is that, there are tarrif plan that we no longer offer hence when you do a sim swap you will lose the tarrif plan.

1:16:00 PM You: I find that very hard to believe. So if I lose/damage the SIM you are telling me I lose my tarriff pln ?

1:16:02 PMValentia: The tarrif plan that we have now are Telkom more and sim sonke only, So when you do a sim swap you will either moved to Telkom more or sim sonke.

I would just use that SIM in a dumb phone that can take bigger SIMs for my calling. Use another microSIM in my smartphone for whatsapp and data...
