My boss was mentioning things I should do to save/claim on tax. I have been working as a field engineer for a couple years and am clueless about tax...

He said things like keeping ALL my petrol slips, receipts for repairs etc..also, I use my pc for work sometimes and he said I can declare that area an "office" so I can claim a squares of office space as my own...

Are there any good books or seminars or something?

1. Keep petrol slips
2. Claim for office space and hardware (printers etc)

Please add..:erm:

Get an accountant who knows WTF they're doing, they'll be able to advise you a lot more than anyone here can I believe. If you're interested, the guy I use charges R350 for his assessment etc and normally gets me a few thousand back from the tax man. He'll be able to help online/over email even. Haven't physically seen him in over 6 years now...

Everything and anything that is a legitimate expense incurred in doing your work/business ie: an expense that exists in order to generate income. Be honest and reasonable and so will SARS.
