I recently started a job through a contracting house where I will be working at one of their clients. I will be paid based on an hourly rate with no paid leave or benefits. The contracting house says I will be responsible for my own tax affairs and I will be paid a gross salary. I have always been employed as a permanent employee and had tax deducted by the company. What are the tax implication of this type of work? Do I have to register as a provisional tax payer now? Do I qualify as an independent contractor? I tried searching online but the information is a bit confusing. Should I consult with a tax practitioner? Any contractors out there can offer any advice?
