how does SARS decide your tax return?

I worked for a company for 6 months im not permanent I see I am only getting a little bit of money from my tax return nothing compared to what I paid in tax.

how do they decide what they will pay you back in tax?

im not even working for that company anymore I had no benefits.

You calculate your total earnings from 1 March 2021 to end feb 2022.

Then based on the table below work out how much tax you should have paid. minus the rebate of R15 714.00

Compare it to how much you paid, and there should be a difference owed to you by sars / owed to sars by you

As @requiem responded, the Tax Table determines how much tax you will pay. If you paid more tax from 1 March 2021 to 28 February 2022, you will get refunded the difference between what you paid vs what you should have paid. And if you paid too little tax, you have to pay in.

For your question whether to register: https://www.gov.za/services/tax-company-income-tax/register-taxpayer#:~:text=You must register as a,of first receiving an income.

You’re not supposed to get it all back. You pay it in, if you plan things right, you get a little back, and government keeps the rest so that you can have electricity 24/7, pothole-free roads and good security and public healthcare.

Wouldn't it be nice....

You don’t get anything back unless you do the things that give you money back.

Like Retirement Annuities and Medical aid.

actually I was meant to get 11k back in tax, but a company I did work for last year paid me without taxing me. and most of the money was taken away due this. now im left with R4300.

How did you last 46 years without learning this ?

Typically you will only get a tax refund in the following cases:

1: You only worked part of the tax year, like in your case. Your company will deduct tax as though you earned the same amount all year but SARS calculates tax over the whole year so your actual rate will be lower.

2: You make contributions to things like medical aid and retirement funds, those are tax deducible and so you get some money back

3: If you write off business expenses, this is probably not you.
