Hi Everyone,

I was working full time at a university, and I was building websites and doing some graphics design after hours up until May of this year. I'm going to be declaring all the extra income, was just short of R60 000, before expenses. ie. Stock Photos, web hosting that I resell, etc.
I want to know, because I was using my car to drive to see clients can I claim back something for my car payments?
I also used to work at home when building the websites, so will I be able to get something back for my rent, electricity, ADSL, telephone line, etc.
I've been waiting for my accountant to get back from leave, I know, what at time to take leave. So I thought I might ask here, as it seems you guys and girls know a lot about this stuff.

Thanks in advance.

you can't claim repayments on your vehicle, only business mileage. you need have kept record of business mileage in order to claim.

regarding use of study, you may claim a portion of that. so you need to document everything i.e. rent, electricity etc and then it is calculated as per the square meterage of your study.

Thanks, and for now that I am working from home? My accountant said I do not need to keep a business mileage logbook as I don't drive to work. Is that right?
