The South African National Taxi Council’s (Santaco) airline launch has been hit by a snag on Friday morning.
Several passengers were prevented from boarding the flight because it was overbooked.
The plane was scheduled to depart at around 10.30 am from Lanseria Airport in Johannesburg.
But, Santaco officials were seen scurrying around the airport in an attempt to control the situation.
The taxi association’s maiden flight will leave for Bisho in the Eastern Cape shortly.

Oh, the Irony! :D

They actually set up the airline quickly. I thought it was going to take years and eventually be scrapped.

Cool. Another airline, means more competition, which hopefully means cheaper airfares for all.

That said, i would probably not fly on this airline - i dont like taxis and would not support something that would enrich them. And generally my perception of this airline is skewed from what i see happening with taxis - lack of maintenance, no regard for the rules of the road etc.

This is for real? I assumed it was a joke Haibo type article the first time I heard of it.

Agree with knobshine.

I would not support them. And how much cheaper can a airline get? More competition does not mean less operating costs...

Is that a white witch squashed under that white wall tire? :erm: :p

How long before the chap with the table tennis bats gets dragged all the way to Bisho?

Can see plane waiting for clearance to takeoff being overtaken by one of these jets. And can you imagine the hooting everytime they approach the stairs.

What signal do passengers have to give?

Huh? Airlines get overbooked all the time, it's not like they took off with 100 extra passengers. This is more of an administrative problem than an observable one. Not a good start for them though.

Overload/overbook. A taxi driver would have let them all in if he were captaining the plane. Then he'd stop twice taxiing to the run way to try pick up more.
