See a lot of threads on Facebook popping up lately where taxis force people of the road if you have people in your car.
Latest one is chap in his Audi forced off the road and then had to pay R5500 because his mother and Wife were in the car.
Is this just the latest new idea to rile people up, or are there truth in this?
I just can't see how this can be legal or how government/ taxi bosses will allow this. This is a bloodshed loading.

And yet the anc remains very quiet on the taxi's and their illegal opperations.
 
The taxi mafia cannot be controlled. There is no regulation. There is no enforcement on the rules of the road. If you in an altercation on the roads with them its you versus them. Take the appropriate counter measures!

Yes Uber and Bolt drivers…their competition.

Not a random family driving around in their Audi and then demanding they pay an extortion fee akin to kidnapping.

It’s exactly what fear mongering is, taking something based in reasonable truth and then stretching it well beyond that.

I would not trust SM much on this front, this is coming from a big "X" man.
 
One of our sister companies is a tech giant with turnover in the billions.

During the 'rona years, they had to ''negotiate'' (read: pay off) with a local taxi association because they were using staff buses to transport their own employees to-and-from work. The taxis essentially said ''Sorry chief, these are our routes and you cannot give your staff free lifts''.

It often comes up as one of the cases studies when our Group does ethics training.

Based on this, I can very much see taxis bullying individual road users if they can force a large company to ''comply'' with them.

A group of employees were pulled out of their pre-arranged transport by armed men wearing taxi association reflector jackets and left stranded on the side of the road on Friday.

The workers had organised private transport to ferry them from their homes in Refilwe township, near Cullinan, east of Pretoria, to work. The taxi patrollers accused them of harming their business and directed them to a nearby taxi rank.

Pretty much...

If there is one guy in the front with GPS navigation and people sitting in the back, then it looks like an Uber and they might make an issue of it.
I think its also around the taxi ranks and routes

Still utter BS though, needs to be policed.

Another issue is people being pulled into taxis. Seems to be more and more common.
in CT there is a guy who solicits passengers, if you make the mistake of telling him you are going to a place and its on their route... he might just encourage you to get into the taxi.

Obviously only a problem if you are a black person walking on the street though.
 
SAPS is a dysfunctional organisation. That is where the fix needs to start.
 
Can we not find a way to have these various criminal groups target each other?

Imagine the taxi associations and the construction 'business forums' having competing interests overlapping and taking each other out

You are saying what I'm saying.

Never said it doesn't happen at all, but the motivation and circumstances are quite different and that it's not as much of a thing as Facebook and the like is making it out to be.
