Hi guys

Hoping you'll can help,

My wifes tazz has recently started cutting out randomly. No shudder nothing, just instant cut out.
We have check the battery terminals, changed battery, replaced fuel filter, fuel pump was repaired. We have checked the alternator and everything seems fine.

The car has an immobiliser but i dont think that this would be the cause. As soon as the car cuts out, the check oil light comes on - there is plenty of oil in the system.

Any ideas?

Thanks

antihijack/immobiliser activating?

could be shorting inside the wiring harness and activating itself.....

I think it might be an electrical problem. maybe malfunction lamp indicator problem? My best bet is to the take the car to a Toyota Dealership for a quote.

Does it cut out predictably? Maybe something is interfering with the distributor.

As soon as the car cuts out, the check oil light comes on - there is plenty of oil in the system.

This is because the oil pressure has dropped below the minimum point. < it means nothing, you will have zero oil pressure when the engine is not running.

It is either fuel or spark related. Not hard to diagnose. But you are a bit short on the info. You did not mention whether it starts immediately after the cut out or needs to be cranked.

BTW model and year would help.

My old Uno gave me endless issues with random cut outs. In the end it turned out to be the fuel pump - the fact that you say it was repaired rings an alarm.

I'm not very mechanical but I think the "normal" fuel pump for the car wasn't electrical. Someone was bright enough to replace the pump with an electrical one (that was actually for a bakkie :p) and the problem was sorted.
