However as @Lupus said if you're not using an external sound system, eARC is a moot point.

Have you tried just good old HDMI sound? over the standard cable? Is that not woking either?

Have you tried another HDMI device like a laptop? Is there sound?

Wow you guys have really gone and confused this topic.
ARC/eARC is used when you want sound from the TV to go through an external device, like a sound bar or sound system.
The optical port on the TV and the decoder would both be transmit not receivers so it wouldn't do anything.
First thing from OP.
What explora model, what TCL model. Screen shot of the sound menu of the TV, the hdmi settings to ensure it's not in hdmi 2 or enhanced mode, the DSTV decoder sound settings.

You probably need a newer HDMI cable...

Really. Just a new cable.

But it works fine on my old tv Samsung 50". I have the new and the old to compare settings etc. This new/old available is not always available to all.

The Explora might be outdated. But it works fine.

Try changing the audio output from "variable" to "fixed".

Sadly doesn't let me know the model number. Going to guess it is the p635.
Plug the dstv into hdmi 1. ARC is for devices you'd like sound to come out of.
Check if there is away to change the hdmi mode from enhanced to standard.
