TCL 65" No volume when connected to DStv Explorer

What do you mean by "volume"?

Is there no sound?

Or are you talking about the remote?
I should have said Audio for DStv does not come through from Explorer.

I hear all the system sounds on the tv like clicking selections etc.

Check that your hdmi format is not set to enhanced mode, not everything likes using hdmi enhanced

Just cancel DSTV and move on with your life like most other people here,

The effort is not worth the recompence with all the adds they make you watch.

It is like paying for YouTube premium but getting more adds than the free version.

Wow Leon. Thanks a lot. It sounds like I am getting somewhere. Just some questions which you may be able to help with please:

1. I will follow all your steps carefully tomorrow. If it WORKS and does not need data/wifi constantly to keep viewing my DStv Explorer then I will keep the TCL only if I can utilise both sources of volume I.e. the TCL 100% volume plus my DStv 20% to 40% volume At the same time ! as I am hearing impaired.

2. Here are two images attached, which are extracts from the TCL Google TV OPERATION MANUAL: (page 8) in Introduction under sub header: Sockets and connections.

Just a mini-plug cable is needed. Where and how it is plugged in is not described.

If I have bought a glorified DATA eater.... and not a normal TV I will also be returning it very very quickly.

This Google TV name is very very suspect.

Will update you soon.

PS:
3. May I post this reply online? You could well have solved this problem?
As you are hearing impaired - the more suitable option is to set the DSTV decoder audio to SURROUND (fixed output) - that way the DSTV decoder audio output is ALWAYS set to its maximum setting (100%) and then ALL you need to do is to adjust the volume on the TV set with the TV remote - the DSTV remote is then ONLY used to change channels.

Ignore the two pictures you included - that specific cable configuration is ONLY utilised for some game consoles or laptops / PCs that do NOT have a corresponding HDMI output capability - they have NO significance or functionality AT ALL when connecting a DSTV decoder DIRECTLY to the TV set using a normal HDMI-HDMI cable.

Data will ONLY be utilised whenever the TV set needs to do any software (apps) or firmware (TV set) updates - OR if you are using ANY of its built-in streaming apps (Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, YouTube, etc).

If you will ONLY be using your DSTV decoder for viewing any programs or recordings / downloads for DSTV, then that data is downlinked via the DSTV satellite dish and NOT via the internet.

Also, as you are hearing impaired, there ARE audio settings on the TV set which can be enabled to compensate for that - they are usually labelled as SPEECH / DIALOG CLARITY or VOICE (or words to that effect) - which adjust the built-in speakers frequency response to allow all voice content to be more clearly processed & audible.

My suggestion still stands - rather get a qualified DSTV installer to perform the necessary setup procedures for your TV set & DSTV decoder, to ensure FULL functionality is available for both devices.

The TV set HAS an option in its settings menus to change eARC to either ON or AUTO, instead of the default of OFF - to enable full functionality of the requisite HDMI port when connecting it to other devices.
eArc is the audio return, it's for if he has a sound bar or sound system that he plugs that into the earc.
It's got nothing to do with normal TV audio

You've also got the supplied AV cables option whilst you figure it out if the explorer has those..

On that model whatever it is the ARC HDMI port is HDMI 1 - on my TCL that ARC port is HDMI 4 so maybe try that port rather.

Try use a optical audio cable (S/PDIF) from TV to decoder.

And send a picture of your DSTV settings under Audio and Video.

The eARC setting having a default of OFF may also have an unintended impact the HDMI-CEC functionality as well - better to leave both the eARC & HDMI-CEC options set to ON on the TV and see if that has any effect...

Wow you guys have really gone and confused this topic.
ARC/eARC is used when you want sound from the TV to go through an external device, like a sound bar or sound system.
The optical port on the TV and the decoder would both be transmit not receivers so it wouldn't do anything.
First thing from OP.
What explora model, what TCL model. Screen shot of the sound menu of the TV, the hdmi settings to ensure it's not in hdmi 2 or enhanced mode, the DSTV decoder sound settings.

It wouldn't matter.
