How many of you guys Use this?

I use one from this link

http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

I used it on my 384kbs line and made it auto configure it,I get a stable 38kb download speed,Is That normal for a 384kb or is it possible to get more without it being optimsed.

It also got me a fluctuation of 8-15kb downloads from running 5 parrel downloads from fileshare which i though was good.

Anybody else uses one of these tools or is it just slowing me down?

I Used to get stable 38 - 45 Kbps On my 384 Line a while back, but that was on an unshaped connection...

still ppl dont know their bits from Bytes... *sigh*
anyway, you'll never download faster than your sync allows, so 38.5 to 39kB/s is pretty much full speed for a 384kbps line
i'm quite curious as to what the optimizer actually does

Seems it tweaks some low-level TCP parameters, things like receive/transmit window sizes and so on. Have a look at sections 3 and 4 here: http://www.speedguide.net/tcpoptimizer.php

I had to tweak settings for various network conditions and it's not fun. Long thin (high-latency low-speed) links aren't what modern OS's expect these days. Depending on the exact settings and how aggressive the app is, it may make a slight to noticeable difference on high-latency or high-load links. But I suspect that everyone will experience it slightly differently. May work for some and not for others.
