Hi guys,

A quick question here. What is the recommended value of the TCP receive window?

Another quicky.... : what exactly is "PING"? (Sounds really newbish, then again, I AM! )

thanks!

Ping, as I understand it, is simply a little echo request to a server/IP that just replies to you, just to show you can make a connection.

It's usefull for us becasue it gives the speed taken for the server to reply, or how long it takes your connection to get to the server atleast. So you can see how fast a connection would conect to a site for example.

Thanks for the info. Can you tell me what would be a good PING rate? Mine is currently 390ms. Is that reasonable?

390 sounds excellent for an international ping, for local that would be bad.

It depends where you ping too, obviously any local site should have very low pings, while international sites have higher pings, simply because they are further away.

a ping to google.com would help, and then another to iburst.co.za or myadsl.co.za
European pings are better (lower) that US (ie google) pings.
