So it is once again time to return to my favourite forum in south africa for help.

So me and my buddy's playing Battlefield 2142, but i have bought Team Fortress 2 awhile ago. so we don't have an uncapped line like other people, lol. capped to 6 local. so i was wondering:

Can we buy him the game over steam, and then i just copy my gcf files, and all those over onto his pc? will it work? i'm not a newb to pc's so if there is anyway that involves system files or something just shoot.

And we want it all to happen tomorrow, so i'm dumb to ask this late but i know there are awesome people here who can help.

Peace

If I understand your question correctly. (You want to play the game with your friend but don't want him to download and decrypt all the info for His own version) You can buy a version for Him, then when steam is saying downloading the game files or installing, stop it(right click on the TF2 and disable always keep this updated). Exit Steam completely then transfer everything you have that is related to TF2 into the corresponding Steam directories. Then restart steam and it should show 100% otherwise right click on it and select always keep this game updated, it should check the files it already has and then be fine, otherwise try restart steam again and see.

If Odly confuses you, the answer to your question is Yes you can just copy the gcf files, you may find it easier just to copy the whole steamapps folder to make sure he gets all the right files :)

Don't overwrite the steamapps folder, He might lose the games he has you don't. Copy into His.

It is much easier just to right click on your Teamfortress 2 and backup the files. Restore it on his system which will put all the files where they belong... Not sure if the "copy protection" will moan, but if he bought the game, then I dont think it would be a hassle :)

yes, one up for the forum again. i've tried backing up my files but for somereason it doesn't include the updates, so everytime i restore i have to update again. but is cool. i understand. thanks. i'll do it later. team fortress here we come.

see you maybe there
