About Us

Appenate is a Brisbane-based startup founded by me (lewstherin, old school MyADSLer), building a leading business to business mobility platform, aimed at the IT channel and enterprise.

Our rapidly expanding customer base is increasingly European and US based, which we manage via an integrated team anchored out of Brisbane and Durban to improve timezone coverage for our users.

We have embraced the concept of a distributed company, with staff working either from home or out of co-working spaces.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to join a lean, agile and exciting company that is globally focused and working with cutting edge mobile and cloud technologies.
It's also a great lifestyle change to skip the daily commute grind and have flexibility in your working hours.

Being a small company, we expect all team members to learn fast and work across many aspects.

To join us, you need to be self-starting, disciplined and able to communicate well.
If you don't want to work from home, no problem - we'll cover the cost of a desk at a co-working space near you.

Our preference is to find someone in Durban, but our arm can be twisted if you're the right person for the job.

We all hang out in HipChat and Skype, so you're in constant contact with the whole team.
You'll be setup with whatever gear you need to be productive.

This role involves becoming our key support person, managing incoming customer issues and questions, while working closely with our dev and sales teams to ensure our customers get the best possible answers and assistance.
You'll be trained to become an expert on our platform and as such will also help out on sales demos, customer training as well as contribute to our development road-mapping activities.

This is a junior role to begin with, but will grow based on your performance and demonstrated appetite for responsibility.
Salary starts at AUD 1,800 pm and will increase based on your performance in the role.
And yes, all salaries are paid in Australian Dollars, so you're Zuma-proofed ;)

Job Requirements

Our platform is used by companies in the IT channel - i.e. software vendors, solution providers, system integrators.
As such we're looking for someone with a technical background in that space - e.g. you should have experience in software implementations, cloud service configurations, IT support and/or system installs etc.

You must have excellent English skills - a lot of your work will involve responding clearly and comprehensively to customer tickets in written and verbal form, so this is a non-negotiable.

Some decent Excel knowledge (building formulas etc) would be a plus, since this knowledge translates well into building apps with our platform.

Finally you really must enjoy helping customers - even the irritating ones :)
We view support as a critical function in our company, so its super important that you enjoy solving people's problems!

This looks awesome, how do I apply????

Mail your resume to jobs[at]appenate.com :)

I don't fit the criteria above, but I really want to join you guys?

Enthusiasm and an interesting resume is always welcome, hit us up on the above email and we'll take a look!

This position has no real likelihood of becoming a dev role because we want this person to anchor the support function in the company going forward. Career progression will come as we grow out the support team and add more customer-facing functions around this initial hire.

If your dream is to be a programmer, then I'd strongly advise you to go directly after those jobs rather than detouring through other roles.
There's really no substitute for on the job coding experience.

Just going to bump this post for a couple of reasons:

1. We've had several resumes from people who hold senior positions or have the years of experience to warrant a senior pay grade.
While we appreciate the interest, this is a junior role and we're not keen on hiring someone that has to take a substantial pay cut to join us.
So we'd like to see a few more resumes from legit junior candidates (i.e. 3 years relevant experience or less).

2. We're hoping to hear from a few more people based in Durban or surrounds.
Definitely still happy to look at candidates from other cities, just want to give Durbanites a final shot if they missed our posting the first time round ;)

Thanks to everyone that has applied so far, we really do appreciate the interest.
We'll be in touch soon if you make the short list.
