Technical questions for the Techno bunnies regarding Antennea.

Howzit guys.

Hopfully someone with enough techno savvy can give me more information.

I am going to try something new with my iBurst modem and external antena.
My question is how close can one install these antennae to each other:

2x Panel antennae
2x Omni antennae
1x Panel and 1x Omni

The helpdesk give me "uhhm aaahh"
 
Maybe you should tell us what you want to do, as that will determine the answers. Two antennas on the same frequency can be put back to back, as long as their front-to-back ratio is good. Two omnis on the same frequency,that just sounds like interfering with yourself!

Interesting, will be there constructive/destructive interference, if you place 2 omni close to each other?

That will depend entirely on how far they are apart. But I think a more relevant question is: will I blow my receiver by having an active transmitter so close to it?

Careful that you get the distinction between load balancing and line bonding right. Load balancing will help you to get maximum when you have 4 different downloads. But if you have only one download you will still be limited to the speed of one of your modems. It should help with the gaming/youtube issue, though.

In order to really say how far apart is far apart enough for the antennae, you're going to need a lot of technical data, such as the antenna patterns, the output power of the modems, the receive thresholds of the modems... What I would do if I were you would be to try and find the radiation patterns for your antennas, and see where they transmit the least power. Then plan your physical layout such that each antenna sits in the area where its neigbour transmits least power.

But I don't think that they'll interfere with each other - the tech is designed to handle multiple clients in the same area. I was afraid that you're going to try multiple antennae on the same modem.

Last I heard, iBurst do provide line bonding, they sell overpriced bonder (R2000+) router for 2 modems to be bonded.. I'll check about it.

That is a load balancer and not bonding. It would be possible to reconfigure the network for bonding and I've done it in the lab but haven't done it in a field trial.
 
Well I've tested the affects of setting up two antennas next to one another and I didn't see any degrade in signal.

Bonding unfortunately can only be done if you have control of both ends of the connection, sadly we will never see iBurst agree to help with this...

Care to share the specs of the hardware that has been used in your test ?

Used a few devices, Linux box, enterprise load balances but the simplest and cheapest was Mikrotik router. Setup the router to dial the pppoe connections and balance over 3 iBurst modems (most i could get my hands on). If you have access to a MK device I'd be more than happy to assist with the setup. A few guys are upgrading so you can pick up a decent MK for R200-R300...

That is correct. RB750 is the cheapest and has been tested.
